huh?

That's good stuff Shadow? What does that mean for the PPC-6700 platform though? I understand it's a great feet to tackle but what's next now? Forgive my ignorance, and don't bother with a reply if it's too painful for you ;)

Find more information here. I did not work with shadowmite/kevin on this, this was all related to xda-developers, but you can find the brief howto I did here:

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.ph ... heProgress

Any and all help is welcome. I've got the scancodes, just need to get the keyboard driver running. Additionally, the touchpad isn't working. It looks promising though. Linux has native access to sd card, etc. The usb cable works (sees it as net conn), the wireless is promising and Opie runs too!

Cool! Question: how much problem do you expect with different size card? I have a 512 meg and a 2 gig, but no 1 gig. :(

From your log, it looks like this thing has a USB host controller. I can think of lots of uses for that...

pretty cool

pretty cool stuff... I bought a ppc-6700 and it's coming next friday, but I'm already looking forward to get linux running on it and start playing with it =]
Is there any forum/wiki/etc used by the current people that worked on getting linux to run on the 6700 ? what is working and what is not ? are things like wlan, bluetooth and gps (still don't know if we can use the GPS that is apparently built in on the phone) working ? I've got some experience with kernel programming myself and I would like to get more involved with pda hacks =]

btw, nice job!

Thats a good question. Right now... not much. The Sharp Zaurus pda's have had a lot of success, and by running linux on a pdaphone it combines superior hardware with a superior operating system. Linux would have better browser and internet capabilities, better networking, server maintenence, remote computer access, and file handling capabilities. Linux would be more of a stand alone pc compared to WM5's cappabilities. Many linux desktop applications can be recompiled to work on linux pda's. All this granted that you guys can get a linux gui working properly and get the hardware to work right.

So what can we expect from running this?

I have alot of questions like...

1. Can you dual-boot it with WM on the go without a PC?
2. What app support does it have?
3. Is it just a "I got it working" thing or is this a real initiative?

I didn't find much on that link you gave me... I am very interested in this and would like more information.

This is a real initative to get it completely up and running. Dual boot is how it currently works, loading linux via a loader inside wm5 when you want it. I have been out of the project for a little while, but expect more details to be put up in a few days to get people pushed in the right direction again on this!

As far as I understand it will run opie or gpe, supporting most or all the applications developed for it. There is a list of apps at http://opie.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/

Also, a phone application will have to be custom made for the 6700. A lot of uderstanding of both the hardware and cellular protocols will be nessecary to get this up. Personally I see this as the part that stumps us for a long time.
