Title pretty much says it all. Is there any way to prevent outlook from automatically disconnecting from vision after a send/receive?
This is starting to drive me crazy!

No, there shouldn't be a way. Because if it doesn't disconnect from vision, you can't accept incoming phone calls, and if you are checking your email every 15 minutes... well then, you'd never get a call

Umm, I dissagree. It should stay connected just like the treo did. Outlook does not keep the connection active, he just means not disconnecting the data link (same as the treo staying connected).
I'm not sure if this is a option, but if not, it's certainly a "bug".

ahh i thought you meant the data link. in that case, i know at least in wm2003se that outlook COULD stay connected - in my 6600 there is a little hand holding a pda next to 2 postal letters. the postal letters sends and receives, then disconnects. the hand holding the pda sends and receives but doesn't "disconnect" outlook.

Exactly Sledgie, however no such icons on the 6700. I have found no way to keep outlook from killing the vision connection.

Rob: Make the following change to the registry per coding listed below: (after backing up your registry)
- Change the "AlwaysOn" dword value from "0" to "1";
-- You may be asked for your Vision ID/PW. Just leave blank.
-- Warm Reset
Please let me know if this works for you. I'm still testing.

Umm, isn't that like fixing a leak in a valve by permently sealing it? With this registry change you will NEVER be able to disconnect vision... Not quite the fix we want.

True. For my use, this is not a problem. At least I dont see the connection screen appear every 30 seconds. The only downside is that the startup time is extended by approx. 7 seconds. No big deal for me.
I read on one of the other boards that Sprint makes changes to the configuration disabling the persistent connection once the "Sprint Customization" kicks in during the initial installation or after a hard reset. I would like to explore the registry before Sprint tweaks it. Worth investigating.

I am extremely happy that this is being addressed. I always want to be connected so this may work for me as well.
Anything negative yet?

Well, first impression is that this is one hell of a hack. Outlook and weatherpanel would kill my vision connection every time they connected. No more!
One odd thing is the way vision connects. It connects immediately when the radio turns on. However no more connecting bubble at the top. Even odder is that it appears to connect instantly with no sign of dialing.
It works great though!

Make certain to disable any keepalives used by 3rd party applications such as IM+. They are no longer required and will only transmit data when not required, thereby draining the battery.

Thanks for the suggestion. I dont use anything like that however.
I have stumbled accross a few bugs it seems but besides that everything is good.
I have noticed that the device is still gives activesync and wifi priority which is great. My only problem so far was that I had to soft reset last night because my units led kept blinking after the radio was off even when plugged in to a/c. No big deal and I cant seem to replicate it. I have also found that often you need to soft reset 2x sometimes in order to get the unit to boot properly. Again no big deal.
so far the positives significantly outweigh the negatives. Having to connect to vision all the time was driving me crazy. Even my treo 300 4 years ago has a peristant connection!
Thanks a lot for the tweak. I am interested in your experiences too...

Rob: I agree. My Treo 650 spoiled me. I miss many of the "ease of use" "1 handed" features and some of my favorite apps. such as Verichat, PTunes and Flight Status. However, I'm beginning to appreciate the power and potential of the 6700. Being able to use my SIP client when I travel to Africa and access my ORB account rocks!

Have you run into any issues with this tweak?

Not yet. Actually more stable, possibly due to the elimination of all those inefficient connection events. I'm finding that I can now run the VNC client, which before only connected to my host with the WIFI enabled. Now it's perfect with EVO. If you encounted any problem, please post your results.
Note that I'm always installing new applications, so I don't have a perfect test environment.
